25th February 2014

Alcohol Misuse – the biggest threat to the emotional and physical health of our young people.

A basic chemistry lesson by Conor McCaffrey from Zest

St Marys GAC is hosting an enlightening talk 7.00pm Tuesday 25th Feb at St.Olcan’s Parish Hall Rasharkin on the significant threat that alcohol misuse poses to the young people in our Community.

We are very lucky to have secured Conor McCaffrey from Zest as our guest speaker for this talk. Conor has been working in the field of self-harm and suicide for many years and has first-hand experience of the impact that alcohol has on the emotional health of people of all ages in Northern Ireland and beyond.

Did you know that 6 out of 10 people who commit suicide and 8 out of 10 people who self harm are intoxicated with alcohol?

Conor will talk about Emotional Health and the positive and negative ways that young people deal with their feelings.

He will then explain the chemical process of drinking alcohol and why over drinking by young people in particular is such a threat to their own health, the health of others and the safety of their communities.

This talk is aimed specifically at all those "mentors” in the area who work with young people.
