Biggest Loser Tip of the Day; I just want to congratulate all the participants in the Biggest Loser as it comes to a close now on Saturday 23rd March. The loss of weight and the adoption of more healthy lifestyles have been great to see. You can see the increased vitality and zest in the people involved as well as the obvious physical differences. It is remarkable that with such a large group of 60 people, that everyone has done so well and embraced the challenges of the whole event.
It would be great to see everyone continuing with their new health regime; in some cases this may be to continue with their weight loss but many have done so well that maintenance should be their goal.

Many congratulations to Elaine, Natalie, Stacey, Benny and Thomas for their great organisation of the event. They had some great ideas and brought a fantastic energy and drive to the "Biggest Loser". Kennedy's Pharmacy were delighted to be associated with the event.

Well done to everyone from Patrick, Jullie and all the staff.

I would just like to express my best wishes to St Mary's and the sharkin men and women for the next 70 years and more, hard to believe it is 70 years since that St Patrick's Day when Terry McShane and John Dougan came along when we had been trying our hand at hurling in a field near Anthony Rogan’s. Tony Mc Lernon was one of the gang that day who went to see Fr Blaney also. Jim Agnew got the jersey’s from Belfast and the Hurls I think they came from Hobbs in Cork, a very long way in those days. I made my own from a tree I had seen fitting the shape required and kept that one for many years afterwards.( I was always trying to make things myself and still would if I could). Later I got 2 new ones from Galway one for my brother Joseph and one for myself but I was always happier with the home made one, bigger and stronger. By the way I still have the Galway one and no woodworm!! Us sharkin boys didn’t know much about Hurling in those days I had heard a lot about it from my Father who had played in the Rasharkin previous club but never seen a game, hard to believe when you think I was nearly 20 years old. Deed I have seen many since and hope to be around to see many more. But we didn’t give up easily and John Kelly was a great Hurler from Dunloy as was Eddie Dooey and we also had help from Glen’s man John Kinney a vet working in Kilrea and Tom and Paddy Burke from Galway. Having these boys was a great help to increase our skills. At times it was hard to keep going but the Mc Gurk brothers pulled us together and we managed to keep going. We had a great group back then from all over the Parish.  It’s  great to see and hear about all the under age players now and the work the club does, I hear you have over 500 members, who would ever have believed it. I still read the weekly newsletter and any coverage in the Irish News I can but am afraid I have been a fireside supporter for many years. John Dougan is now a Wicklow  man but he still remembers well that St Patrick’s Day and is always interested to hear how St Mary’s is getting on even if he was a Dunloy man. Terry McShane went to Dublin but is sadly no longer with us but both men never lost their love for Antrim and the GAA. I have many happy memories of the great times St Mary’s GAA gave us boys over the years and in later years when the we had the great football battles but those younger boys from the 1950’s can tell you about them. Some great games and football played and many a battle had. Well I would love to be able to join you on Saturday night but they tell me it’s too cold for an olde boy of my age to be going out at this time of the year but you never know. Hope you all have a great evening and  as I said best wishes to all for the many years ahead and keep up the Hurling a wonderful game. These days my only footballing grandchildren are in Monaghan, they certainly have the passion for the game and maybe someday young Joseph might even manage a game in sharkin!
